Subject: Illegally Excess charge of prepaid taxi service in Howrah Station
My Name: Subash Chandra Panda
My City: Pre Paid Taxi fare charged hire than actual
My Complaint Against: Pre Paid Taxi by Howrah Police Traffic Guard
Complaint Category: Tours & Travels
Claim Amount (Approx.): 90
My Complaint Description:
On 31.08.15 I wanted a prepaid taxi to be booked for me from Howrah to New Town. As per my calculation the distance was within 14-15 KM from Howrah station to my house at New Town as I have gone several times in my bike for pick up & drop of my relatives for their train journey. Accordingly I was ready to pay approx 200-225 Max for hiring the prepaid taxi but the officer at counter asked Rs. 280/-. On my query about the high price he told me that its as per rule distance and you are getting the receipt for the same. At that time I was thinking perhaps I have forgotten the exact distance and kept silent & booked the vehicle vide Serial No 4075450.0001 and the vehicle no was WB-04-F-5283. While the vehicle reached my place it was exactly 15Km as usual and I have captured the meter reading of the vehicle on my Mobile and when I enquired from the driver regarding excess charge he told the price is fixed by Police & they have nothing to do with that. As per the calculation it comes Rs. 186 for 15KM @ Rs. 12.40 per KM as per normal Taxi charge while as they have charged Rs. 276.40 as per billing and have taken Rs 280 from me. Is this not a case of cheating of innocent passengers by Police itself. Now My question is what is the guarantee of non exploitation from the Police and who is going to refund the excess charge charged by Prepaid taxi. Why this type of cheating was committed by the police and what action needs to be taken against the persons involved in this as lot of passengers my have same problem which they never tried to think at all due to no such complain system and most likely there is no way to get any answer or refund of money rather wasting of time.
Pls do thing this matter as a serious issue and if proper investigation can be possible it will be a great help to the passengers who are using the service.
Thanks & Regards
