My Complaint Description:
I was supposed to travel to New Zealand from India with my 3 other friends on our dream trip for which we took 3 weeks of holidays from our office after working extra hours. We had been planning for this trip since 3 months. We pre-booked and pre-paid everything in New Zealand including stay, car and activities. Full of excitement, we reached hyderbad airport and we were denied the boarding pass saying that the flight that we were supposed to board had a technical halt of 1.5 hours in Australia and we don't have a transit visa for that. We were shocked because our ticket mentioned only 1 halt between Hyderabad and Auckland and that was Kuala Lumpur. We argued with the staff for hours and asked them why is the halt not mentioned in the ticket and they said this is MakeMyTrip's mistake and asked us to talk to their representative on airport. The MMT's staff said they can't show all the information in the ticket which is ridiculous. In next 20 days, i kept talking to MMT's customer care on email and requested them for compensation. They said they showed a message during the booking that "transit visa may be required" on which i should have clicked and they are not responsible for Visa issues. I asked them why did the ticket not have the true information and event the booking in my MMT account doesn't show the halt in Australia. To this they had no answer and kept repeating that they showed the information and they are not responsible.
I gave them counter point that even if customer misses some information about flight during booking, he should get the completely information in the ticket that is proof of the booking. They can't show different information in ticket. Moreover, are customers supposed to take screenshots of the steps during booking to provide as proof to Australian Visa Officer to get the visa? Because no Visa Officer is dumb to give visa to people when the ticket doesn't even mention a halt in australia. The customer care simply stopped replying. I reached out to them again on twitter and for 10 continuous days, they kept stalling me saying "THEY ARE WORKING ON IT".
This not only costed us the flight tickets which were non-refundable but also lot of money that was spent on bookings in new zealand. And moreover the mental pain and disappointment was may more costly than the money we lost. We lost so much money on a trip that we couldn't even take.
